Great blog Gem, good to see you combining both your stage crafts to make a scene work to its full potential and thinking about the underlying stuff of your character and not just whats going on at the surface and in the script. You're doing a fantastic job of Sophie, I don't think anyone else could play her quite like you do, she's very complicated and you bring out the many layers of Sophie. Congrats.

But Peter's SO much hotter! :p

And our set's better imo, but I like how that set has that whole chessboard feel to it.
I'm gonna get that feeling now that everyone's gonna be frowning upon me because I'll be the only one holding a script for the next week, ah well.

That's probably why I feel awkward actually, because unlike other characters I've played in the past few years, my movements with Ketu are more mechanical, I agree with you and I think I'll try your suggestion on improvised actions or at least think about it when I start memorising lines. Thank you for that :).

One thing I'd like to say is: "Patience is a virtue."
But I'll tell you anyway, I just hope that you won't be offended by it or take it to heart at all, because those aren't my intentions.

You see Gemma, my friends and I have a 'mood' system going on in which one day out of the blue we pick 'a yes' who we'd feel that is better looking than anyone else present.
Now I just wanted to add a bit of zest to my blog by putting in my weekly moods, although some weeks they could just stay the same, or I wouldn't feel in any particular 'mood' at all.
I hope that you understand and don't take it the wrong way or anything.

Take care.

I wanna print my logo and bring it to class on Monday or Tuesday to finalise which logo we should use.

Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it. :)

I really like the idea of colour representations of characters through lighting, good job on that.

Also, you're doing a very good job with Sophie's character.
I need to work on Ketu's movements, moving on stage feels awkward cause I keep forgetting where I'm going.

And about the mood, umm, I'll keep everyone guessing. lol

Take care.

Love, love, love everything you're doing and .... Love, love, love that you hate it. Strange comment yes.
Your ownership of the play and especially your role is what gives you these contrasting emotions. You are staking a great deal in it, expending a lot of energy in creating it and setting the standard at a high level. All positive things, as long as you also keep things in perspective.
I also agree with the need to explore the 'extra' characters a little more but I think we're in great shape to allow this to develop once the main structure is there. I also think there is a lot of problems with both mine and Lisa's blocking where some characters are too stationary, others move too much and some block the dialogue of others by where/when they are moving. These are all bigger picture elements which will begin to iron themselves out when we are running larger sections of the play.
Your ideas on lighting are developing well. Don't forget that you also have Beth working with you so divide up the tasks. You should come and see me together this week and I will provide you with a copy of the MIPAC standard rig, inventory of lighting stock and perhaps some websites where you can explore colour-gel selections.

Amazingly perceptive Gemma.
Sophie is developing really well. As you continue to explore her she is gradually coming to life. I feel for this type of play, the best approach is not to come into the rehearsals with chracterisation too fixed but to allow it to grow and shape through the process. You are doing a beautiful job of this.
As for the blog tasks and how different members of the class approach it....I am intrigued to hear that some people are not taking constructive suggestions well. I thought this was one area in which I had been clear in developing skills. Without feedback, we don't learn.
I encourage the whole class to take comments on board, as they are intended...not to judge but instead to provide opportunities for our project to be as good as it possibly can be.

You are really getting a handle of this blog thingy.
In the meantime, I want everyone to check out the following response to this week's journals...on the aitkents main page...
Then I want everyone to leave a comment on something in their that really stood out for you.
